BLS branches and divisions operate in 76 Belarusian towns and villages as well as in Moscow, Irkuck, Vilnia, St. Petersburg and Riga.
Established in 1991 by Hrodna University’s Belarusian Linguistics Department stuff. Pavel Scjacko was its first head while a number of professors and associate professors became its members. In 1993 the branch coerced the chancellor to let professors lecture a number of courses (both in humanities and in natural sciences) in Belarusian. The organization issued two printed media of its own.
